They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray... Stay here and keep watch." Mark 14:32-34
ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2005, our pastor, the Rev. Lawrence A. Davies, spoke at our main 11 a.m. worship service, using a passage from Mark 14 to talk about our life together as a "community of disciples." He talked about our importance to each in our journey of faith and transformation, a journey that is never complete, a journey that requires continued growth and struggle. Like Jesus' own disciples, we aren't yet able to do all that Jesus asks us to do. We all still have a lot to learn, and we all still need a lot of support from each other in that learning process.
Music for the service was provided by our Volunteers Chorus and Intermediate Choir. The Rev. Ronald Cooper served as worship leader.
Scroll down this page for more photos from the service as well as audio and video clips from the sermon and the music.
A reception was held immediately after the service to honor and bless our own Pamela Bridgewater, who would be leaving in the coming week to take up her new assignment as U.S. ambassador to the African nation of Ghana. In brief remarks during the service, she said that in addition to her formal job responsibilities in Ghana, she hopes to advance the "kingdom of God" through personal acts of love and compassion and connections with the people of God who already reside in that nation.
