Shiloh Old Site's Pastoral Ministries Deacons and Deaconesses
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for they who love their neighbor have fulfilled the law (Romans 13:8)
Groups of deacons and deaconesses play major roles in the pastoral ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site). Each deacon or deaconess is a specially called servant of God, ministering in God's name to the congregation and the community. Biblically, deacons included both men and women, serving wherever there was a need among God's people. Today we think of "deacons" as dedicated servants within a Christian congregation, but a comparable position was also present in the Jewish synagogues where our own faith had its birth. At Shiloh Old Site, male and female deacons serve as separate bodies. Each group has as its own independent leadership, but together they have the same mission: to enhance the life of God's people through faithful service to others.
