And now these three remain: faith,
hope, and charity... (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Additional information about the club:
The Faith & Hope Club of Shiloh Baptist Church (Old
Site) was organized on January 19, 1971, by Mrs. Vernice Tyler at the request of
the pastor, Rev. Lawrence A. Davies. The club's name -- Faith & Hope -- was the
inspiration of Mrs. Tyler, who, in referring to Scripture, urged the club to
believe that it could grow and thrive with faith and hope for continued
commitment through combined Christian efforts.
Mrs. Tyler served ably as the club's first president
from 1971 to 1974. The mantel of leadership then passed to Mrs. Edythe McLaurine.
In 1977, Mrs. Lena Watson took the helm and proved to be a rare blessing for our
organization, serving as president for twenty years. Her leadership was most
effective, and we believe that her many years as president provide evidence of
her devotion to the club and our love for her.
In 1977, Mr. Mark William Olson was elected
president of the club. He proved to be an outstanding leader. At the suggestion
of Mrs. Laura Montgomery, while Mr. Olson was serving as president, the club
initiated a weekday morning Bible study, currently
held at the church on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. through most of the year. Mr. Olson
continues to serve as the teacher. Portions of the group's first Bible study --
on the Gospel of Mark -- were subsequently published in book form by Judson
Press, under the title Breaking Free. A
Wednesday evening Bible study under club sponsorship was initiated in 2007.
In 2001, Deacon Johnny P. Johnson agreed to take the
leadership of the club. His creative vision, compassionate spirit, and broad
knowledge of the church and community has kept the club vigorous and strong.
During the years of the club's existence,
its membership has grown in number and in Christian spirit. It has offered
service in a variety of ways, sponsoring programs and pageants as well as
providing service to the church and community in many different ways. In 1974,
the club began providing a light repast for church members and friends following
the Thanksgiving sunrise service, and it has continued annually with this
activity. Each year during the month of February, it sponsors a program related
in some way to African American history. In addition, the Faith & Hope Club saw
the need for an official church web site, and it is the club that has continued
to provide the funds to maintain it.
Johnny P. Johnson, president of the club, asks
members and nonmembers alike to "continue to pray for us as we press on to
higher ground."
