Shiloh Old Site's Pastoral Ministries

Rev. Joel Nelson

Ministerial associate

I will sing of the love of the Lord forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever.

Psalm 89:1-2a

REV. JOEL NELSON uses his many years of experience, passionate spirit, and love of Scripture to help provide leadership for our 8 a.m. early service. He also teaches a class from time to time.

Rev. Nelson is one of six children born in New Roads, Louisiana. He was licensed to preach in 1981 and ordained to the gospel ministry in 1982. For sixteen years, he served as the founder and pastor of New Jericho Community Church of Laurel, Maryland. He worked as a pastoral counselor for five years and later served on the board of directors of the Prince Georges Pastoral Counseling Center in Lanham, Maryland.

Rev. Nelson earned a bachelor's degree in religion from Richmond Seminary, a master's degree in pastoral counseling from Loyola College, and a doctorate in Christian counseling and psychology from Carolina University of Theology.

He serves during the week as director of church development for the Fredericksburg Area Baptist Association, which provides services to 52 member churches. He has a particular interest in helping churches develop a strong discipleship ministry.

Rev. Nelson is married to the former Ethel L. Daniel of Orange, Virginia, a retired federal government employee who often assists Rev. Nelson with seminars, retreats, and classes. Together, they are grateful to the Lord for one son, Kevin, who is employed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Washington, D.C.

Rev. and Mrs. Nelson were officially welcomed as part of Shiloh Old Site family on Sunday, September 12, 2004.
