Youth can apply for one of our educational scholarships

We offer several scholarships annually

Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) presents a limited number of scholarships annually to persons who maintain active ties with the church and are pursuing either university or vocational education.

Application forms for several of the scholarships can be downloaded from this web site (see column at left). In order to be considered, you must fill out and return your application (and related materials) in a timely manner. Deadlines are shown on each application.

Learn about our Alsop Burruss Thornton scholarships

One or more Alsop Burruss Thornton scholarships are presented annually. The amounts vary. Both beginning and continuing students at universities and vocational schools are eligible to apply.

These scholarships are funded by money given to the church for this purpose by the late Rev. Norma Burruss. She was a long-time member of Shiloh Old Site, taught in the Fredericksburg city schools, and also served for a time in Liberia with the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention.

Learn about our Carrie Bankett scholarships

One or more Carrie Bankett scholarships are given annually to high school seniors who have been active in our church school and are preparing to pursue a college or university education.

These scholarships are in memory of the late Carrie Bankett, who was a devoted member of Shiloh Old Site.

Learn about our Lauren Davies scholarships

Our Lauren Davies scholarships are given in memory of Lauren Davies, the late daughter of Rev. Lawrence and Mrs. Janice Davies.

Lauren (pictured at right) is fondly remembered by many in the church and community as someone who courageously sought to be a person of faith despite a lifelong battle with sickle cell anemia.

Additional scholarships are sometimes awarded

In addition to the scholarships mentioned above, additional scholarships are sometimes awarded by groups (or even individuals) within the church.

Most scholarships (though not all) are announced each year at an 11:00 a.m. worship service in June.
