Educational Scholarships Available

SHILOH BAPTIST CHURCH (OLD SITE) presents a limited number of scholarships annually to persons who maintain active ties to the church and are pursuing college or vocational education.

The Alsop Burruss Thornton Scholarships are funded by money left to the church for this purpose by the late Rev. Norma Burruss. Rev. Burruss was a long-time member of Shiloh Old Site who taught in the Fredericksburg city schools and also served for a time in Liberia with the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention.

The Carrie Bankett Scholarships are given annually to high school seniors who have been active in our church school and who are planning to pursue a college education. These scholarships are in memory of the late Carrie Bankett.

The Lauren A. Davies Scholarships are given in memory of the late Lauren A. Davies, daughter of Rev. Lawrence and Mrs. Janice Davies, who courageously sought to be a person of faith despite waging a life-long battle with sickle cell anemia.

The application deadline for all scholarships is May 15 of each year.

All of the scholarships are open to high school graduates who will be beginning college or advanced vocational education. Some are also open to those who are continuing in such programs.

Each applicant must meet the stated criteria for each scholarship and must submit an application (and related references and documentation) by the deadline.
