Sermon Excerpts

Rev. DaviesHere are two brief snippets from the conclusion of a sermon by Rev. Lawrence A. Davies (right), preaching on the dangers of relying either on military might or on the false strength of the kingdoms of this world when we are citizens of a more mighty kingdom, the kingdom of Christ, which is ruled by the Prince of Peace, the only one in whom we ought to put our trust.

Rev. Davies' text was drawn from Acts 27, a story in which agents of an earthly kingdom ignore the warnings of Paul and warnings of those who believe in God, pushing ahead into troubled waters with foolish plans, eventually finding themselves shipwrecked -- much like the U.S. has found itself in Iraq.

Here are small portions of some of the songs presented on 28 September 2003 by the Intermediate Choir (wider photo above) and the Boyd's Memorial Volunteers Chorus (narrower photo above). The Intermediate Choir, composed of young people up to the age of 21, was directed by Mrs. Barbara Bates and accompanied by Mrs. Phyllis Nelson. The Boyd's Memorial Volunteers Chorus was directed and accompanied by Mrs. Marcelena Eure. The soloist on "Take Me Back" was Mrs. Shirley Hill.
