A word of welcome from our pastor

Pastor Lawrence Davies So that a Light might shine, so that a Hope might reign...

I am pleased and honored to welcome you to Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), located at 801 Sophia Street in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Whether you are younger or older or somewhere in between, whether you live alone or are part of a larger family, I think you'll be pleased at what you find at Shiloh Old Site, for we are a fellowship of people who fervently believe that God has no outcasts. We are convinced that there should be no walls of exclusion, no barriers to God's grace. At Shiloh Old Site, everyone is welcome.

Two women in pewsBecause there are no bounds to God's love, we put no bounds on ours. So no matter who you are, no matter where you come from, no matter what others may say about you, you are warmly invited to join us.

Join us as we worshp our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Join us as we graciously support each other in fellowship and love.

Join us as we courageously and compassionately serve our world in Jesus' name.

Two girls in pewAs you become a part of the family at Shiloh Old Site, my prayer for you is that you will experience a profound spiritual companionship, be empowered by an amazing sense of holy wonder, and be deeply energized to join our active and faithful outreach to all those who find themselves in need.

Jesus' disciples once asked him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry, sick, or in prison?" Today they might also have asked, "When did we see you torn apart by violence and war? When did we see you longing for human dignity and respect? When did we see you struggling against poverty and economic injustice?"

But we no longer need to ask such questions of Jesus, for we've learned to see him every day. That's why here at Shiloh Old Site, we seek every day to reach out in love. We reach out so that a Light might shine. We reach out so that a Hope might reign.

Gospel singerWith that in mind, I invite you to worship with us. I invite you to grow with us. I invite you to serve with us. And I invite you to learn with us.

Together, as we feel the warmth of God's embrace, may we all find new hope, new strength, and new courage so that together we all might make a difference for the better in the lives of those around us.

I believe that God's Spirit is at work, both here and around the world. I also know that here at Shiloh Old Site, we strive to be in touch with that Spirit. We strive to be faithful servants of the One who has made us, the One who has loved us, the One who has redeemed us.

Here at Shiloh Old Site, to use the words of an old gospel song, there's a "welcome table." It's the "welcome table" of our Lord.

I earnestly hope that you will will join us in worship and service around that table in the near future.

Rev. Lawrence A. Davies, Pastor
