We offer two weekly Bible studies
Tuesday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
Most Tuesday mornings, we offer a stimulating, in-depth opportunity to explore the content of a particular biblical book. We not only look with care at what the book authentically says but we also discuss some of the ways in which the ancient message of the book might inform and guide our lives today.
Each session lasts about an hour and a quarter, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, depending on how involved our discussion gets. No advance study is necessary. Study and discussion materials are handed out each week.
Participants typically come from Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) as well as other churches. Our Faith & Hope Club sponsors these Bible studies (and underwrites the costs) for the benefit of both our own church members and others in the larger community. Mark William Olson, a member of our Faith & Hope Club, writes the materials and facilitates the discussion.
The goal of these studies is not only to deepen our understanding of scripture (and to do so in a non-simplistic way) but also to help us all do a better job of following the God who is our Shepherd, the One who is forever seeking to lead us to greener pastures, even when the world through which we must travel is filled with rough valleys and stubborn obstacles.
Sessions are usually held in Room 106 in our building at 801 Sophia Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We meet weekly except that we never have sessions during holiday periods, during the main summer months, or whenever the Fredericksbug city schools are closed due to weather problems. Join us!
Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
Most Wedneday evenings, Shiloh Old Site offers a stimulating, in-depth opportunity to explore the content of a particular biblical book. Sessions begin at 7:30 p.m., right after the weekly prayer service.
We not only look with care at what a biblical book authentically says but we also discuss some of the ways in which the ancient message of the book can inform and guide our lives today.
Each session lasts between an hour and an hour and a quarter, depending on how involved our discussion gets. No advance study is necessary. Study and discussion materials are handed out each week.
The content of the Wednesday evening Bible studies is different from the content of the Tuesday morning Bible studies. (Each group is typically discussing a different biblical book.)
Our Faith & Hope Club sponsors these Bible studies (and underwrites the costs). Mark William Olson, a member of our Faith & Hope Club, writes the materials and facilitates the discussion.
The goal of these studies is not only to deepen our understanding of scripture (and to do so in a non-simplistic way) but also to help us all do a better job of following the God who is our Shepherd, the One who is forever seeking to lead us to greener pastures, even when the world through which we must walk is filled with rough valleys and stubborn obstacles.
Sessions are usually held in either Room 103 in our building at 801 Sophia Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia, or else in the second-floor church library. We meet weekly except that there are no sessions during holiday periods, the main summer months, or whenever there are special services being held at the church building on the same evening.

A book that grew out of our Tuesday Bible study group
One of the first studies undertaken by our Tuesday Bible study group was a study of the Gospel of Mark. Some of the lessons from that study were later published by Judson Press as a book entitled Breaking Free: Bible Studies in the Liberating Call of Jesus.
While supplies last, it can be ordered directly from Judson Press or from Amazon.
Robert L. Robinette from Cincinnati, Ohio, posted the following comment about the book on Amazon.com:
"I am currently using this book as a guide for leading an adult Sunday School class. We are about a month into the study, and the response has been tremendous. Every study stimulates discussion and forces us to grapple with profound spiritual issues. Everyone seems surprised that we are finding these things in Mark -- a Bible book we've nearly all read many times. Olson brings a fresh outlook to the study of Mark. There is an excitement to the old, old story that somehow most of us have missed. I highly recommend this book for personal and group study. My only problem is finding a study of such quality to follow this one!"
