Connections

International

Shiloh Old Site is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance and the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention.

National

We are long-time members of the Progressive National Baptist Convention.

Within Virginia

Our major involvement on the state level is with the Baptist General Convention of Virginia. We also maintain a more limited connection with the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

District

In our part of the state, we're active members of the Mattaponi Baptist Association.

Immediate area

We are members of the Fredericksburg Baptist Association, and we are one of the founding members and governing churches of Micah Ecumenical Ministries.

A daughter congregation

We consider Shiloh Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., a "daughter" church, for it was founded in part by members of our congregation who fled north to freedom during the Civil War.

A sister congregation

Within the city of Fredericksburg, Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) was established in the 1880s when certain members of our congregation chose to move to a "new site," farther from the river and its sometimes destructive waters.

Shared history

Our congregation has common roots with Fredericksburg Baptist Church. Further information on this connection is available on our history pages.

Key links in discovering who we are

Members of the congregationWe are a congregation that
is drawn to the ways of Jesus

We are first and foremost a congregation, a community of people gathered together by the Spirit of God as a living witness to the embracing love that was made manifest through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

As a congregation, we are young and old, married and unmarried, employed and unemployed. Some of us have been walking with God for a mighty long time. Others are new to faith. But we convinced that whether we are male or female, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, weak or strong, we are all nevertheless "children of God, marching to Zion."

That's why day after day, we strive both as a congregation and as individuals to be true to the caring, embracing, and life-redeeming ways of our Savior.

Not surprisingly, the way is not always easy. There are mountains that are hard to climb. There are hills that forever get in our way. But there's also a Spirit that keeps us from falling, a Spirit that keeps us marching forward, "step by step, all the way."

We've created a photo gallery featuring quite a few of our members as well as friends and fellow travelers. To take a look, just click here.

Pastor and some staff We have a dedicated pastor
and a caring staff

Since 1962, the chief shepherd of the flock here at Shiloh Old Site has been the Rev. Lawrence A. Davies (top photo in this section).

His biblical insights, passionate prayer life, humble spirit, insightful preaching, compassionate energy, and far-reaching visions have led our congregation over the years into an ever-deeper life of faith and service. We're blessed with a pastor whose long tenure with us has given him remarkable wisdom and spiritual maturity.

We also benefit from the ongoing work of several highly caring ministerial associates and ministers in training. These include the Rev. Ronald Cooper (second photo in this section), the Rev. Luerene Perkins, Minister Marilyn Smith, Minister Patricia Coleman (third photo in this section), and Minister Julian Ferguson. They serve in various ways in the congregation and community while maintaining paying jobs in other fields.

In addition, Deaconess Joanne Cooper, our secretary (bottom photo in this section), is in the church office each weekday. Timothy Jeter serves as our treasurer; Bruce Webb is our assistant treasurer; and Russell "Nick" Bundy, our operations facilitator, faithfully opens and closes the building as needed and does some light day-to-day cleaning.

Some servant leadersOur servant leaders practice
a fruitful discipleship

Here at Shiloh Old Site, our servant leaders seek to manifest a biblical discipleship, the kind of discipleship that produces "the fruits of the Spirit," not just now and then but day in and day out.

Our deacon and deaconess ministries are led by Rosetta Noel (top photo in this section) and Willie Conyers (bottom photo in this section). Each member of the congregation is assigned to at least one deacon and deaconess for ongoing support and service.

Our trustees, led by Raymond "Buster" Nelson (second photo in this section), seek to strengthen and enhance the physical property of the church for the sake of better facilitating our Christian ministry and outreach.

Jackie Jackson (third photo in this section), who serves as our church clerk, handles needed correspondence, and maintains all kinds of important records.

Many others provide servant leadership as well, whether they be musicians, ushers, church school teachers, club and committee leaders, outreach coordinators, and more.
