Shiloh Old Site Youth Ministries
A TRIP TO GHANA, AFRICA, is being planned for the summer of 2008 for any youth who wish to participate and who can help raise the necessary funds for their participation. WANT TO PRAISE GOD THROUGH SONG AND DANCE? Come and be a part of our Youth Praise Dance Team. Rehearsals are normally on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. For more information and exact schedules, contact one of the following: Mrs. Debra Daniels (540.371.7899) or Mrs. Mavis Allen (540.374.8162) LOTS OF EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES are available for youth at Shiloh Old Site. Here are a few of the things going on: Young Ministry Meetings are normally held at 6:45 p.m. on the second and fourth Friday night of each month, plus additional times as announced. This is a time to plan future activities and express support for one another. Youth Bible Studies are normally held each Wednesday night (except the fourth Wednesday of the month) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visits to the Sick, Shut-Ins, Older Folks, Hospitals, or Nursing Homes by the Youth are normally done once a month. Sometimes it's to bring some cheer. Other times it's to bring a basket of fruit or other gift. Watch for dates and times or contact one of the youth advisors (or Minister Felecia Cook) for information. For more information on what these visits involve, click here. An Annual Youth Retreat provides a fun outing and an opportunity for spiritual growth. Watch for information so you can sign up early. Space is always limited. Youth Community Outreach Days are held from time to time as a way of reaching out to the broader community, especially the youth. It normally sings at the 11 a.m. service on the fourth Sunday of each month. Rehearsals are each Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. For more information, click here. United Anointed Youth with a Purpose Community Choir brings together youth from Shiloh Old Site and several other churches, giving concerts at various churches and community events. It was founded by our own Mrs. Phyllis Nelson, who provides the piano accompaniment. To join or to get information on the current rehearsal schedule, contact Mrs. Phyllis Nelson at 540.710.9887. Sisters Helping Sisters is designed for young women among our youth as a way of promoting fellowship, fun, and sharing. For more information, click here. Boys Into Men is for young men between 12 and 18. It's designed to help young men address the issues, concerns, and challenges that they face so that they can be young men of God in all situations. Mr. Will Sinkler and Deacon Thurman Brooks (540.371.1584) are shepherding this group. For more information, click here. Venture Crew for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 who have completed at least the eighth grade. Venturing is a co-ed program of the Boy Scouts designed to challenge youth physically and emotionally while developing leadership skills and pursuing outdoor adventures. Junior Ushers is open to children and youth who would like to serve as ushers once a month at an 11 a.m. worship service. Sunbeams is our children's choir. They normally sing on the third Sunday of each month. Rehearsals are usually on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. For more information on the Sunbeams, click here. Sunday School has classes for children and youth of all ages. For more information on the Sunday school, click here. Youth Week is held once a year at Shiloh Old Site, with a variety of special programs and services. Youth Week ends with Youth Sunday, during which there is a special focus on youth. The 2007 Youth Week will run from April 9 through April 15. For a description of events that were planned for the 2005 Youth Week (April 17-24), click here. Math tutoring for youth is often available at the church on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Robert Montgomery, who teaches the class (540.898.2397). Scholarships are available for new and continuing college students who have ties to Shiloh Old Site. The application deadline is May 15 each year.
