Who was I to stand in God's way? (Acts 11:17)

Shiloh Old Site's Small Group Ministries

Young Women's League

AS FAR BACK as the late 1930s, those women who were aware of their capabilities and the untapped resources in many areas of society saw the need to unite, stand up, and be counted.

In 1939, Mrs. Lottie T. Young, aware of the apathy among some Christian women at Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), issued a call to these inactive "Sunday sisters." It was a call to Christian service and Christian activities. Eighteen women answered that call, and the Young Women's League was born.

From its inception to the present time, this organization has combined the spiritual gifts and creative talents of women at Shiloh Old Site in order to "serve the Lord with gladness" in many ways. Members of the Young Women's League (YWL) continue to be active in and dedicated to programs that enhance the beauty and spirit of our historic edifice. They also participate fully in the worship experiences, connect and contribute to the well being of the congregation and community, and expand their Christian influence through church-sponsored outreach ministries.

From the era of our first president, Mrs. Virginia Kay, to the present day, the YWL (now 25 members strong) has continued to make an indelible imprint on our church and community. In addition to the many contributions to improve the church aesthetically (carpeting and draperies, appliances, banquet tables, piano, audio-visual equipment, and other furnishings), we pride ourselves on having the first Girl Scout troop and the church nursery. (We might add that both are still active!)

To cultivate and insure our continued goals and growth, Mrs. Ella Rowser organized the separate Young Ladies League as a pool of trained, Christian younger women who would join the YWL upon reaching "maturity" (hopefully at the half century mark!).

The YWL is open to new members. Please consider joining us! Meetings are normally on the second Tuesday evening of each month, except for July and August.

President: Pamela Johnson

Vice-President: Deaconess Dorothy White

Secretary: Denise Webster

Treasurer: Pat Coleman

Chaplain: Carrie Smith

First Lady: Mrs. Janice P. Davies
